The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may be getting its biggest camera redesign in years. CAD renders shared on August 23 and 24 by well-known tipster Ice Universe — with two more added by leaker Sonny Dickson — show Samsung abandoning its signature floating individual lens rings for a raised, iPhone-style camera plateau on the phone's rear.
What the renders show
According to GSMArena's report on the renders, the new layout groups the rear cameras onto one unified block in the top-left corner:
- Two sensors sit in their own separate circular cutouts
- A third camera shares a pill-shaped cutout with the LED flash
- The whole array sits on a raised plateau, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro's design
The pill-shaped cutout reportedly houses a 5x telephoto camera that would replace the 3x telephoto used on the Galaxy S26 Ultra — a notable trim, since the current Ultra carries two telephoto lenses: a 10MP 3x zoom and a 50MP 5x periscope that together enable up to 100x total zoom. If the leak is right, the S27 Ultra consolidates to a triple-camera setup with a single, larger 5x telephoto. Raising the camera block frees internal space, letting Samsung fit larger optics without thickening the whole chassis. Dickson's renders also hint that the phone could come in two sizes.
Notebookcheck adds that the plateau would leave more room for magnetic Qi2 charging accessories, and notes Ice Universe posted the design on both X and Weibo — while predicting Samsung will catch plenty of criticism for the look. A separate leak suggests the non-Ultra Galaxy S27 models will keep their current design.
Why the leak divides opinion
Treat all of this as unconfirmed. Earlier leaks pointed to a horizontal camera bar instead of this plateau, and the conflicting renders cannot both be right — GSMArena itself says the new design should be taken with a grain of salt. Samsung has announced nothing, and final hardware is typically locked months before launch renders can be verified.
The redesign debate matters because the S-series Ultra has kept roughly the same camera identity since 2021. Moving to a plateau would make the S27 Ultra look more like its Apple and Google rivals — which is precisely what many longtime Samsung fans are already objecting to online.
What it could mean for Philippine buyers
Samsung's Ultra flagships reliably reach the Philippines within weeks of their global debut. The current Galaxy S26 Ultra arrived here on February 26, 2026, and its official local prices are a realistic baseline for what an S27 Ultra would cost if Samsung holds its pricing:

To be clear, no S27 Ultra launch date or Philippine pricing has been announced, and none of the leaks touch on it — the renders concern design, not availability.
In the meantime, Samsung's attention is on the nearer term: the company has confirmed a Galaxy event for August 27, where the Galaxy S26 FE is expected, and its longer-range roadmap reportedly includes five foldables in 2027. Expect the S27 Ultra rumor mill to accelerate once those launches clear the calendar.
